A cosy reading nook

Updated: Oct 24, 2022

The days are getting shorter and the nights are longer. To help to survive winter, people and animals slow down and preserve their energy. The best way is to cosy up in cold days - it's to settle with a good book and a cuppa. So, let's create a reading nook.

A good book nook incorporates three key things: great lighting, adequate book storage, and a cosy factor. What makes a good reading nook? Style your space with plenty of soft, plush textiles—think throw pillows and fuzzy or knit blankets.

Shannon Acheson in her post How do you make a COSY corner says:

To create a place where you'd like to spend time reading, you need:

- A place to sit. You should choose somewhere comfortable and a place to put up your feet.

- A throw pillow and throw blanket. Of course, the serves to make your cosy corner look inviting.

- A place to put down your drink.

Of course, the serves to make your cosy corner look inviting.

Light is an important factor in a successful and comfortable reading space. A good floor lamp is the best source of good quality lighting in the evening. Candles are good to create a mood, when enjoying time with the family and your loved ones. A big full size floor mirror creates a sense of drama, reflects the light and view from a window, enlarges the space.

Abigail Renegar says she’s inspired by light when decorating, and she knew a bright corner of her home would be a perfect spot for a reading area.

“Having the book nook right by the windows is so nice for both sunny days curled up in the natural light and rainy ones cozied up under a blanket,” she says. (The cats are a nice addition, too.)

We hope you enjoy your quality time with a good book or your family, reading to your children or share ghost stories.
